It’s Sunday night.
The past 2 days went by in what feels like 5 minutes and the sickening thought of setting your alarm for a Monday morning wake up call is almost enough to put you off your roast dinner. Almost.
But there is absolutely no reason for Mondays to have such a bad rep as being the ‘worst day of the week’. In fact I prefer to look at Mondays as a chance for new beginnings, new opportunities and new goals to smash. As cliche as it sounds, I always think it’s pretty exciting waking up on a Monday and thinking of all the things you could do to bring you closer to reaching your dreams!
Yep, I am that annoyingly optimistic Monday person who may as well be swanning on to the bus wearing flowers in my hair with a flock of singing woodland creatures following behind me – and it’s all thanks to these simple steps that I swear by.
Wanna know how to beat the blues for good and start your week with the best intentions? Here’s what I want you to do…
SATURDAY + SUNDAY
This part is easy… Just do everything that makes you happy.
Go out for lunch with your friends, see the film at the cinema you’ve been meaning to catch, make a cheeky lil Topshop purchase, recreate some recipes from your favourite new cook book, go for a long walk with your family… Whatever.
Just be sure to take plenty of snaps so that when you get to Monday you can look back and appreciate what an amazing couple of days you had and start the new week with gratitude – ”the best attitude!”
Now this is where you need to get your organisation game ON!
First off – fuel up with a nourishing dinner (always a good place to start, no?) Whatever you have, make a big batch of it so that you can save a portion to take with you to work tomorrow. This is a clever way of training your mind to think ahead, get organised aaaand it also means leftovers. YAY!
Then have a good pamper. I love to exfoliate using Frank Body Scrub on a Sunday night followed by a little self tanning action (check out my go to lotion here) so I wake up on Monday feeling fresh, bright and extra glowy.
Next it’s time to hit the hay! Put a few lavender drops on your pillow and sip on a Valerian tea if you’re more of a night owl – these are natural remedies that never fail to do the trick! Getting an early night will mean you will wake up feeling revitalised and motivated to take on a new week.
‘BEEEEEP! BEEEEEP! BEEEEEP!’
Those famous alarm bells are ring-a-dinging and it’s officially time to peel yourself from under the covers. Now whatever you do, do NOT press the snooze button.
Instead, spring right out of bed, smile (even if do you feel like a zombie) and head in to the shower for a refreshing wake up call. Blast out your favourite happy music and throw on an outfit that makes you feel confident and empowered. If you feel good about yourself, it will reflect on to everyone you meet and you know what that means? Good vibes all round my friend!
And before you run out of the door, I want you to make a pit stop in the kitchen so you can fuel your body with some serious energy to keep you going through the Monday morning grind.
Eggs and avocado, porridge with fruit and nuts or almond butter and banana on toast are all fabulous options to set you up right – but if you’re short for time, quickly blast a healthy smoothie to take on the go. Trust me, your body will thank you for it come 10am!
Never underestimate the power of helping others.
Buy your friend a coffee, compliment your colleague on how great their work is or offer a hand to someone who seems like their struggling a little. It doesn’t have to be a huge thing; just something that will improve their day, smile and say ‘thank you’.
Not only will this make you feel good about your week ahead, but it will also set theirs off on the right track, too! It’s a win win.
NOW PUT IT TO PRACTICE!
Remember that it’s all in how you think and prepare right – you can be the Monday person who everyone will want to be around to make them feel good too!
