Alright, I’m gonna keep this post short and sweet.
Reason being because there is not a great deal of photos for you to feast your eyes on – but the ones I do have to show you? Mouth. Watering.
One fiiiine spring afternoon, mother dearest and I took a well deserved break from that hectic wedding dress shopping stress (that’s as guests, not as brides… just FYI) to feed our souls, all whilst soaking up some much anticipated vitamin D.
And where’d we go? The one spot I love to visit whenever I’m out and about in town and want a real treat to fuel me up for the afternoon. Ladies and gents – introducing Goji Vegetarian Cafe…
This to me is a total gem amongst a city that boasts a pretty electric variety of restaurants specialising in pretty much every cuisine you could dream of: Chinese? You’ll be spoilt for choice. Italian? You’ll find one on every street! Vietnamese, Thai, Turkish, Indian, British, Seafood, Mexican, Japanese… Rest assured, whatever kinda food you’re fancying – you’ll get it in this city.
You’ve gotta love York for that. It might be relatively small in comparison to other cities, but what it does have is quality – not just with eating, but also with the sights and shopping.
Vegetarian, however? Despite the ‘veggie options’ on pretty much any restaurants menu, I think you’ll find that Goji Vegetarian cafe is probably the only spot that have nailed a 100% vegetarian menu, where absolutely everything is made daily from scratch in their own kitchens. Their ethos is all about using high quality products to create humble favourites that will appeal to pretty much every one; From the older audience who want to dine in a more laid back atmosphere, to the younger health conscious foodie who would absolutely kill for a vegetarian burger (with extra sweet potato wedges) come lunch time.
Now I’m gonna skip to the good bit and let the pictures do the talkin’!
Here’s what we had…
Their ‘deli salad’ selection option – where you can opt to have 3 of their specials piled on to a plate. Perfect if you’re not sure what kinda mood you’re in and like to have a little bit everything to (literally) stick your teeth in to!
This is their beetroot salad (shredded beets + apple cider vinegar) with almond pesto butter beans aaaand my personal favourite: cashew and coconut cauliflower… SO good. The mix of flavours and textures here were on another level of fresh!
As my Mum would say: ‘For a girl who wears a lot of black, you sure like to eat a lot of colour!’
Mmhmmm – gimme all the rainbow!
Wait… You didn’t think I was gonna go to Goji and not order their sweet potato wedges, did you?
probably 100% the best wedges I have ever tasted when eating out. Supersized, skin on and moreishly gooey in the middle… Just how I like ’em!
Ask for a pot of their homemade hummus to dip. You won’t regret it.
But it’s not all deli salads – rest assured you’ve also got their famous favourites, hot specials and freshly baked cakes to choose from.
Wanna know what other kinda food they do? It seems you guys on Instagram like to ‘like’ my Goji posts just as much as I enjoyed devouring them..
So here’s a few I ate earlier.
Ahh man – all this food writing has got me feeling a little hangry…
Looks like I’m gonna have to peel myself away from my laptop and head to Goji right now. (I wrote this post in a coffee shop approximately 5 minutes away from there. How convenient…)
If you’re ever in York – HEAD TO GOJI CAFE. If you love good food that’s made by people who truly care about what they are serving you – then you will no doubt love it. The interiors might not be anything fancy, but boy – the food is yet to disappoint me… And I’ll admit that as a blogger who loves cooking my own food, I’m not too easily pleased when eating out!
